Berkley Electric Fillet Knife

Berkley's story is rooted in the American Dream, which is defined by hard work, struggle, and building partnerships to achieve goals. The story doesn't just belong to Berkley Bedell; it also includes dedicated co-workers and loyal customers who were willing to take risks. In June of 1937, 16-year-old Berkley Bedell used $50 from his paper route earnings to start a business selling his hand-tied flies to fishing tackle shops and vacationing anglers in Spirit Lake, Iowa. The business quickly outgrew Berk's parent's basement and living room, and he expanded to the second floor of the local grocery store. After serving in the Army Air Corps and attending the state university, Berk returned to Spirit Lake in 1945 to start Berkley and Company, initially focusing on cable wire leaders. He then became interested in developing nylon monofilament fishing line, and after obtaining a license from DuPont, began producing nylon-coated wire and monofilament fishing lines. In 1959, Berkley introduced Trilene, which was well-received in the fishing community. Over the next few decades, the company experienced significant growth, expanding internationally and introducing new products like soft plastic baits. Berkley has consistently committed significant resources to research and development, resulting in numerous product innovations, including Trilene, the Lightning Rod, PowerBait, FireLine, and more recently Gulp! and Gulp! Alive. Today, Berkley continues to be a leader in fishing tackle innovation, offering products with 6" and 8" stainless steel blades that resist corrosion, with side release buttons to prevent accidental blade release, and including 110 volt standard plug, 12 volt vehicle plug, battery clips, and a carrying case.
